The Highways Agency is warning drivers on UK roads to look out for the hidden dangers of winter weather this week, after the country was put on alert to expect a cold snap by the Met Office.
It has said that even if snow is not falling, drivers need to make sure that they are looking out for the dangers of black ice which could cause people to skid and be the cause of van insurance claims.
Jason Glasson of the Highways Agency’s winter team, said: "Although the forecast suggests you are unlikely to need a snow shovel this week, you should make sure you have plenty of warm clothing for you and your passengers. If you break down on the motorway it's dangerous to stay in your vehicle."
This winter, the IAM and Brake have also offered tips for people heading out in winter, saying that they should ensure they have food and a full phone battery in case of breaking down.
