School pupils in a small village have been joining up with police officers to offer advice to drivers acting unsafely on roads with regard to driving and parking.

The children from Kirtlington Primary School in Buckingham have been watching the behaviour of drivers in the area, and sending letters to those who have been speeding.

They have also been offering advice on safety to those who they feel are driving without due care and consideration on the roads for other drivers, in a bid to reduce car crashes and van insurance claims.

Fiona Crook, head teacher, told Buckingham Today: "The children surveyed the volume of traffic passing the school at different times of the day and calculated the speed by measuring a distance of 50 metres on the pavement and timing how long it took for vehicles to cover that distance."

Pupils got involved as part of the school's School Travel and Road Safety (STARS).

Recently, pupils in Yorkshire have been joining police at the side of the roads to man speed cameras, handing out their own specially made speeding tickets in a bid to get drivers to slow down when driving past their school.
